Respondents for our project were mostly foreign (non-Russian) students. That probably has influenced the type of companies mentioned as well as the final voting. We find this type of respondents very appropriate, because they study in Russia and know a lot about European market at the same time. Of course, their horizons of Russian brands are quite limited. Our blog has been promoted via Facebook and Twitter.
According to the voting conducted since February 25th till March 13th, the best Russian brand/ company is Gazprom (45 % of all votes), followed by Russian Standard with 40 %. (Note: voting for more than one brand is possible). We consider this as an expectable result, as those brands are worldly known. Gazprom was mentioned in the videos several times, which shows its popularity among Russians as well as among foreigners. And as vodka is typical of Russia, brands Russian Standard and Putinka are considered to be the best brands too. Saint Petersburg citizens and visitors are obviously proud of Baltika company.
The reasons for voting for certain brand can be divided into two groups, depending on the respondent nationality and country in which he lives. Foreigners voted mostly for oil and vodka. On the contrary, Russians named brands, about which non-Russians don’t know – especially brands connected with technology, such as MTS, Beeline or Yandex.ru.
